Thaipusam is a Hindu Festival originating from South India and commemorates the feats of Lord Murugan, also known as Lord Subramaniam. As per the Hindu mythological book, Skanda Purana, Thaipusam is the day when the lord himself appeared in front of his devotees on a peacock. Moreover, it acknowledges Lord Murugan’s victory over the evil forces. Thus, every part and parcel of Thaipusam signifies a celebration – good over evil, light over darkness and wisdom over ignorance. Devotees pray and fulfil vows in order to overcome the obstacles they face in life.

It is said that Thaipusam began in Penang during the late 19th century. It’s held largely in Waterfall and the day before and after Thaipusam, numerous routes hosting the chariot come alive.
