A major annual festival in George Town where disposable biodegradable plates are favoured over harmful plastics.

Under the stewardship of George Town World Heritage Incorporated, the George Town Heritage Celebrations is an annual feature that embraces the beauty of Penang’s culture and history. Since 2009, this celebration has garnered both locals and tourists alike. Almost every nook and alley in George Town comes alive with art installations, workshops and folk dances. And no celebration in the state is complete without food. Subsequently, our bagasse disposable plates, paper cups and eco spoons played their roles.
Serving Hot Food and Gravy on Biodegradable Plates

The main dish was thosai, a crepe-like South Indian pancake, which is served freshly off the hot pan. Our 9 inch disposable plates were the ideal size, and condiment sauces were served too. The durable construction helps the plate to remain firm when filled with hot food. Thanks to the high-quality plant fibres that make up the dinnerware, consumers can comfortably use them for all events. For instance, it is deemed the best natural disposable plates for festivals, such as Thaipusam and Hari Raya.
Gathering feedback from consumers, the organising booth was happy with the quality of the plates and spoons. Nevertheless, it was great to see foreigners appreciate the plate’s thickness, as they initially had concerns that hot curry would be poured over it. Besides offering reliability and strength, the biodegradable plates set a progressive message to the public. Produced from renewable plant-based materials, these bagasse plates are an environmentally conscious alternative to conventional plastic ones.

We are truly glad about the efforts from the Penang State Government to set a single plastic-free environment. From encouraging eco friendly lunch boxes at Medan Renong Food Court to banning plastic straws, every green step forward is widely welcomed.
