“Bring on the kuah banjir!” said the plastic-free disposable lunch box.
Can Our Biodegradable Disposable Lunch Box Withstand Kuah Banjir?
Our biodegradable lunch box has oil and gravy resistance for approximately 3 hours plus. The disposable food container has no layer of wax and is made of paddy straw. Most importantly, the lunch box is biodegradable and compostable.
We went a step further to test if our bio lunch box withstands kuah banjir? If miraculously you do not understand what this Malaysian-loved term means, it’s extra ladles of gravy onto rice, which is most often at nasi kandar.
So, we opted for a takeaway meal from Restoran Deen Nasi Kandar, revered by many as one of the best nasi kandar in Penang.
We arrived at 2.15pm and got our disposable lunch box filled at 2.18pm. The steaming white rice was paired with a fried chicken and okras, and generous ladles of gravies. As kuah banjir as it can be, we could actually see a pool of gravy. The biodegradable takeaway box was quite heavy too, as the fried chicken was huge.

The disposable lunch box had no leakage and held its structure well.
The fried chicken and savoury gravies ladled over the rice were very much filling and the bio lunch box had zero traces of leakage yet again. After close to 1 hour and 40 minutes, the biodegradable takeaway container withstood to the test of kuah banjir!
And yes, that nasi kandar was nothing short of excellence. The chicken, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, matched well with the mixture of aromatic gravies.

The best part is disposing of the lunch box which is biodegradable and compostable. Reducing plastic is a practice that should be followed by all walks of life. Not forgetting the harmful effects of eating a hot meal from a plastic or polystyrene food container.
