Yes, it’s that day of the week that you want to make the most of. Penang is blessed with attractions for all ages and one not to be overlooked is Hin Bus Depot. Numerous cafes call this former bus depot home and every Sunday it hosts the Hin Market.
We timed our visit for brunch and was impressed by the variety of food and drinks. From vibrant colours of cold-pressed fruit juices to freshly brewed coffee, sizzling noodles to pastries and cookies, we have more tasty excuses to ignore our diet plans. Not forgetting some out-of-the-box offerings like Vietnamese Artichoke Tea and 3D Jelly Cakes.
Since the sun showed no mercy, we booted with a cup of fresh lemonade from Gadis Lemonade, followed by Mama Goose Cabin’s chicken dumplings and Juyo’s cold-pressed pineapple apple juice. Not only the flavours were exciting but the eco-friendly efforts too. To name a few, Shasha from Gadis Lemonade serves her refreshing drink with paper cups and paper straws, while Juyo packs their juices in glass bottles and offers a refund once the bottle is returned. User-friendly, eye-catching and eco-consciousness, you have the whole trifecta checked.
There is never a dull moment if you love arts and crafts too. We were fascinated by the colours and creativity on offer. Be it the handmade artistic blocks from Paige Wanji or Dérfla Floral Design’s fresh-cut and dried flowers, ceramics pots or lifestyle accessories, everything is worth checking out. The best part, the items don’t weigh heavy on the wallet too.
Kids were completely unshackled from smartphones as they were fixated on the arts and crafts, drew on chalkboards and played among each other in the communal ground. Some were also figuring out the message behind the wall murals and recognised various edible plants.
We had a pleasant time at Hin Market and encourage you to bookmark this spot on your Penang to-do list.
If you are interested to purchase biodegradable food containers, biodegradable plates, paper bags and wooden cutlery, Green Eco Paradise is only a 10-minute drive away from Hin Bus Depot. Apart from disposable food boxes and plates, we also have face masks and hand sanitizer to keep your hygiene level intact while you explore Penang.
