Ban on Polystyrene Box Malaysia

It has been years since Malaysia imposed a ban on polystyrene boxes. However, we can see these disposable boxes popping out here and there.
It’s like a return of a villain whom we thought of defeating a few episodes ago.
What Happens When Hot Food Goes in the Polystyrene Box?
Yes, these harmful disposable boxes are commonly seen as landfills. Prior to that, this food container was where we got our food from.
These boxes contain toxic substances such as Styrene and Benzene. The former is a chemical that leeches into our food. According to the American National Research Council, this component is classified as a carcinogen, as a study detected Styrene in human tissue and breast milk samples.
What’s even bad? Microwaving the food with the polystyrene container. These boxes are not heat stable and might leak hazardous compounds to the meals.
Equally Bad for the Environment
When something is extremely cheap, it could be equally harmful too. For our mutual home as well, the environment.
Imagine taking in the beautiful views of the river and forest, only to be obstructed by a pile of polystyrene boxes. Well, it was a large part of our reality some time ago. Nevertheless, these toxin containers are somewhat sneaking their way in again.
Impacting habitants of the environment too. Styrofoam easily breaks into tiny fragments. Small land and sea occupants lose their lives after consuming it. The small parts of the boxes also cause blockage in their bellies that lead to starvation. Since the boxes are lightweight and float on water, they form a ray of debris along coasts and waterways.
Polystyrene Box Contributes to Global Warming
The polystyrene box is made with petroleum, a non-sustainable resource. The production of petroleum on the other hand creates heavy pollution. The chemicals have major effects on ozone depletion and global warming.
What Should We Do?
