A paper straw sale that no one wants to miss.

Turning eco friendly faces some criticism for being pricy and exclusive. People tend to label disposable lunch boxes made from natural materials as not wallet-friendly and so on. It might have been, say a few years ago. However, when consumers were willingly reducing plastic for the sake of the environment and public health, things got cheaper. A week ago, our lunch boxes and cutlery were featured in a famous food court in Penang, which turned 100% single-use plastic-free. When we are doing the right stuff, there always should be a reward, correct?

Our collection of disposable straws merges the goals of appearing sleek and ditching plastic. The best from the pack has to be this straw with wrapper.

Paper Straw Should Be Used Across Bazaar Ramadan

Right now, Green Eco Paradise is having a Ramadan Promotion for 6mm paper straw with wrapper. Keeping in mind that many vendors will be selling cold drinks in Bazaar Ramadan. Priced at RM0.044 per piece, one gets great value in the purchase. Itching closer towards the price of plastic straws, and ditching plastic pollution. That sounds like a win. Hygiene is always a concern, as such the straw wrapper takes care of it. If you prefer trying out a smaller quantity first, opt for 2000 pieces, with a cost of RM110 (RM0.055 per piece).

Green Eco Paradise's wooden disposable cutlery and paper straws were featured too. — Green Eco Paradise’s wooden disposable cutlery and paper straws were featured too.

Recognising this opportunity, we hope many vendors would market themselves for reducing plastic. Apart from drawing attention, it spreads the message to the upcoming generation, particularly kids. For example: when UTP used our eco friendly disposable plate for Hari Raya, all walks of life had the opportunity to understand the difference between plastic and natural materials.

February 26, 2024 By Green Eco Shop Manager

The enduring appeal to go plastic-free at food courts is now taking place.

Food has a long journey before it lands in your stomach. The most crucial part has to be during takeaway as its temporary home could be a plastic container. When hot food is stored in plastic packaging, the heat causes chemical bonds within the plastic to react, allowing it to break down into the contents inside. Click here to read about a harmful effect of plastic. While it may trigger health issues, it’s already polluting the land and ocean. It is a sight that none of us wants to see yet is unaware that their wise decision can turn things around.

Penang has always been keen on eco friendly disposable food containers to tackle the plastic issue. The government initially banned plastic bags and has guaranteed to decrease plastic for food events. For instance, Hari Penjaja 2023 saw our eco food containers and wooden cutlery in action. The same goes for St Anne’s Feast with biodegradable lunch boxes and the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) encouraging eco plates and bowls for Thaipusam. We are evidently moving towards a sustainable path together!

Moreover, the honourable guests also extended their wishes to the food stalls for their positive approach.

This step forward sees the importance of preserving a better future and sharing the “Go Green” ideology. Thankfully, this movement will be spread to other food courts too. Nevertheless, there are considerations over the price differences in opting for eco friendly products. Keeping consumers and the environment in mind, these extra pennies will be worth it. Moreover, customers are glad that vendors are giving plastic a miss. A fraction of them were new to wooden spoons and eco packaging, and are gradually eyeing various combinations. Particularly, disposable bowls made from leaf.

Say No to Single-Use Plastic with Paper Black Straw

Black paper straw served with orange juice

Perhaps for many of you, paper straws were the first plastic alternative we switched to. In fact, it was one of the earliest actions by the Penang government to ban plastic straws. Rightfully so. Disposable straws are made to be discarded after a single-use. When plastic straws are chosen over paper, it adds up to plastic pollution. Plastics take hundreds of years to break down, extending pollution and directly harming wildlife. Click here to read about ocean occupants like turtles being impacted.

Are Paper Straws Durable?

This is a common question we get with new customers. As per the name, paper straws are made from paper hence it follows the traits of a paper. The disposable straws are thick enough to get the job done. 6mm straw is ideal for normal drinks, while smoothies and shakes go with 8mm paper straw. These straws are designed to withstand liquid absorption for a sufficient period while offering the regular comfort of sipping. However, plastic straws, since they are made from plastic, hold their shape always. Which brings to mind, how bad would it be that an item that takes hundreds of years to break down is regularly used.
